Oil and Gas Courses

Course Title

Course Profile

Course Modules

Petroleum Geology

The course aims to broaden understanding of petroleum geology by explaining
Geological principles & processes; describing how petroleum reservoirs and source rocks are formed.

  • Minerals and rocks.
  • Deposition and diagenesis.
  • Plate tectonics.
  • Structural geology and petroleum systems.
  • Generation, migration and trapping of petroleum.
  • Geophysics and Engineering in Exploration & Production

Basin Analysis

The course aims to cover theories, methods and practice to develop and optimize basin evaluation & modelling techniques by analysing different basin types.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to construct and interpret geo-history Subsidence curves using computer software for basin modelling.

The course will also include a rigorous geophysical-petrophysical workshop for sequence
Stratigraphy, reservoir characterization and development geology.

  • Introduction to the Petroleum System
  • Geo-mechanical Fundamentals of Basin Formation
  • Burial History Curve
  • Organic Geochemistry: Quantity, Quality, and Maturity
  • Migration Pathways
  • Reservoir-Traps-Seals and Analogs
  • Basin Classification

Gas Reservoir Management

The course is aimed at developing a broader understanding of the engineering features related to gas reservoir management, allied with sound engineering practices to maximize gas reservoir value.

Full spectra of gas reservoir engineering techniques are considered & their application to a variety of options is discussed.

  • Gas reservoir fluid properties
  • Gas reservoir fluid flow and well testing
  • Determination of original gas-in-place
  • Gas flow in well bores and pipelines
  • Prediction of future performance and ultimate recovery
  • Reservoir management of water-drive gas reservoirs
